About Zoë - Film Director

Zoë McIntosh is an award-winning New Zealand director with a gift for finding unforgettable characters at the edges of society—and uncovering the truth, humour and humanity beneath their unconventional lives.

Her feature documentary Stylebender, an intimate portrait of UFC champion Israel Adesanya, premiered at the Tribeca Festival, where it was nominated for Best Documentary and earned Zoë a nomination for Best New Documentary Director. Her dramatic short The World in Your Window won Best International Short Film at seven festivals and earned her three Best Director awards. Her YWCA campaign also won a Cannes Director Award.

Zoë has just completed Meet the Preppers for TVNZ, about ordinary New Zealanders preparing for the end of the world. She also directed You Chose This, a feature documentary developed with the New Zealand Film Commission, and long-form branded documentaries for Netflix, the BBC, SBS and MasterClass.

She currently has two projects in development: a feature documentary about wilderness adventurer Miriam Lancewood and a psychological thriller set deep in New Zealand’s South Island.

Alongside directing, Zoë mentors emerging filmmakers. Her work is fuelled by curiosity, spontaneous road trips, conversations with strangers and a willingness to follow a story into unexpected territory.
